The Harry Potter Fantasy Realm

Here is where you will find interviews with the cast of Harry Potter!  Most of them come from the curtesy of magazines and websites.

Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe tells Newsround's Lizo Mzimba that he's looking forward to meeting Cho Chang in the next film, and why he never reads reviews.  [BBC]

What was it like filming the second time around?
It was brilliant because we started about three days after the first film had been released, so we were still in our characters - it was really easy to get under their skin again.

Is book two still your favourite?
No, I love the second book but it's now my second favourite because I've just read the third and that's my favourite - which is handy!

What was your favourite scene to do?
I love the scene with the duelling with lots of crowds, then you've got a fantastic confrontation between Alan Rickman and Kenneth Branagh. And in both the car scene and the duelling scenes there's a lot of stunts going on and I really enjoyed doing that.

What do you do in your spare time - do you still have a good life as a normal kid?
Yeah. I think one of my favourite things to do is just lock myself up in a small room and listen to music and watch films for a day.

Also I just like seeing my friends. We have pizza parties which means I get four friends round, we eat a pizza and we're really lazy and we play PlayStation.

Do you do look at the internet and see all the stuff on there?
I don't. I have never seen an article or read a review or anything because it can affect your performance.

How different was this film?
Oh, it's a darker story and it was fun because you see a much darker side to Harry's character. So it was really fun trying to bring that to the screen.

There was loads more action in this film and I think it's just a lot darker story and that was just fun to do, all stuff with the spiders and everything.

Was it really creepy?
It was really creepy actually because Aragog was really there. Aragog weighed 4.5 tonnes. But I think it was worse for Rupert than it was for me cos Rupert is actually scared of spiders. I'm not sure how he coped with it but he did really well. He didn't have to act much in that scene, luckily for him!

After the third film will you be doing any future films?
I'm definitely doing the third and after that I have no idea what's going to happen.

So you might or might not do the fourth film, depending on how you feel?
Yeah, basically.

Are you excited about who's going to play Cho Chang, the girl you get a bit of a crush on?
Um... kind of excited, yeah.

Will you get to help decide?
No.

What was it like working with the new kids in this movie - the people playing Colin Creevey and Justin Finch-Fletchley?
It was great. Especially Hugh Mitchell, who plays Colin Creevey. At first he's really shy but then you get to know him and he's completely mad, he's really cool, I really like him.

The Guildhall in London was all dressed up to look like the Great Hall at Hogwarts.

Hundreds of reporters from all over the world piled in to hear what the cast and crew of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets had to say.

Read on to get all the goss.

How much has life changed for you?

Dan: My life has changed surprisingly little. People come up to me and ask me about the films which is cool, and it's great to hear what they think about it all. But I do plenty of normal kids stuff, like hanging out and having pizza parties.
Emma: I like to keep my life as normal as possible with my family and friends. I guess the main things that have changed is that I get recognised and I've got an action figure of myself!
Rupert: I think it's cool being recognised. Although I have tried setting up disguises but the never work!

How do you feel about the action scenes in the movie?

Dan: Action scenes are so much fun. In one of the car scenes I was actually hanging out of the door for real about 35 feet up in the air which was really cool. I do most of my stunts myself.
Rupert: Stunts are one of my favourite things. Being in the car was like being on a theme park ride.

What was the most challenging scene for you?

Dan: Speaking Parseltongue was really hard to get the hang of.
Emma: Some of Hermione's lines left me wondering what on earth she was going on about!
Rupert: The spider scene. I don't like spiders in real life - even the rubber ones scare me.

What was it like working with Kenneth Brannagh?

Dan: It was an honour to work with him, but intimidating when I first met him. He's this amazing Shakespearian actor, but actually turned out to be one of the nicest guys I've ever met.
Emma: He was really down to earth. He got the character of Lockhart just right - really cheesy and funny.
Rupert: I thought he was really funny and really easy to talk to.

Robbie Coltrane plays Hagrid
Robbie Coltrane plays Hagrid
How was it playing Hagrid again?

Robbie: It was great, coz as the books progress, more about Hagrid is revealed. I mean he's in prison for a lot of this film, but you get to delve into the past and find out about a darker side to Hagrid.

What do you think about Dobby?

Jason Isaacs plays Lucius Malfoy
Jason Isaacs plays Lucius Malfoy
Dan: I think he's great, and if he was mine I'd get him to do my homework for me.
Emma: I think he's really sweet.
Rupert: He doesn't seem useful to me at all!
Jason: I think he'd gone a bit Hollywood by the end of it - he spent most of the time in his trailer!

Out of Harry and Ron, who would Hermione choose in the film, and who would you choose in real life?

Emma: (Embarrassed) Well I can't say who she'd choose in the film. And as for real life, I'm much better at arranging other people's love lives.

And do the boys have girlfriends?

Dan: I'm really flattered by all the fan letters I get, but I don't have a girlfriend.
Rupert: Me neither!

If you were a real wizard what would you do?

Dan: I'd turn invisible to get out of trouble and into rock concerts.
Emma: I'd like an owl coz it's cheaper than texting.
Rupert: I'd have the flying car coz it's really cool.

What's it like going back to school?

Emma: On set we had a tutor for a minimum of three hours and a maximum of five so we kept up with our work. I enjoyed going back to school and being normal again. I've got big exams this year.
Rupert: It was fine. My friends were all really normal with me, but my teachers suck up to me a bit!
Dan: I've just started a new school and it's really great.

We hear Dan's really into punk music

Dan: I really like the attitude and sound of punk music. Some of the bands I'm listening to at the moment are the Sex Pistols, The Clash and the Stranglers.

We heard Dan had to work out a lot to be able to hold the owl on his arm

Dan: It's true I had to exercise a lot more for the film, but more for the climbing and sword-fighting scenes.

It's been in the news that Richard Harris has been really ill. How is he?

Chris: He's got Hodgkins disease and we've been visiting him in hospital and we all wish him a speedy recovery. All I'll say is he'd kill me if I re-cast his part with someone else!

Were you worried about the film being too scary for kids?

Potter director Chris Columbus
Potter director Chris Columbus
Chris: I was a bit concerned so I tested it out on some kids in Chicago aged seven to 13. When I asked them if they found it scary, none of them put their hands up. They all put their hands in the air when I asked if it was exciting!

My five-year-old daughter didn't find it scary either. In fact my 38-year-old friend was far more frightened! The only thing I'd say is if you're really scared of spiders, you might not like it very much.

Dobby is much uglier than people expected. How did you develop him?

Chris: Dobby's had a really difficult life as a servant so he'd hardly be cute and cuddly. You have to fall in love with his inner character.

I didn't want him to turn out like a certain other CG character who turned out to be really annoying. (Who can you be talking about, Chris?!?)

What was your favourite scene?

Dan: The duelling scene with Lockhart and Snape, and I love the scenes with the big crowds in.
Rupert: I liked the slug scene best. They actually tasted really nice coz they were all different flavours - chocolate, peppermint, orange and lemon!

How do you make sure there's not too much pressure put on the children?

Chris: I told the kids to look at the lives of other child actors. To see what didn't work out for them and to look at the people who were successful like Jodie Foster and Ron Howard.

My main advice is that when it isn't fun any more, when adults are telling you to do stuff you don't wanna do - walk away and quit. The only things that are important are family and friends. And these kids all have great parents and are incredibly grounded.

Rupert Grint seems to love every part of being in the Harry Potter movies - apart from his character falling for Hermione.

Most fans reckon Harry's best mates are going to get together as they get older, but Rupert isn't so sure it's a good idea.

He told CBBC Newsround he's not looking forward to the Ron and Hermione storyline.

Ron and Hermione
Rupert isn't looking forward to getting friendly with Hermione
He said: "I hope it doesn't happen. I hope Ron gets killed off before they actually do something."

Unless you've been hiding under a box while the stars promote the film you'll know Rupert's favourite scene was the one with the slugs - , but he revealed he also wasn't keen on filming the bits with the spiders.

He said: "I hate them - even rubber ones I get scared of.

"Luckily some of them were CGI [computer graphics]. But that big car-sized one, that was actually there unfortunately." And like Emma Watson he also said being a big movie star has changed the way he gets treated at school - although not from the other kids.

He said: "My friends have been great - they treat me normally. The teachers suck up, they really do. But other than it's been fine."

Emma Watson
Emma spoke to CBBC Newsround's Lizo Mzimba about her favourite scenes in the Chamber of Secrets and life as a movie star.

What was it like filming the second film?
With the first one we had no idea what we were doing.

The second time round we had experience behind us and knew the cast and crew.

It was really good fun and everyone was a lot more comfortable with that.

What were the best bits for you?
I really enjoyed the Gilderoy Lockhart scene.

It's funny because I really enjoyed making the film but then again I also really enjoyed watching it this time round.

Why - because you get to do all those dreamy lovely looks?

Yeah - he is Hermione's heart throb!

Gilderoy Lockhart is played by Kenneth Brannagh and he's a really nice guy.

What was it like being turned into a cat? Can you tell us about that - and how much make-up you had to have?
It was a mixture of a masks, make up and special effects. It was cool though.

How long did you have to wear all that hair on your face?
Not very long - it was only one shot so it was alright.

What's it like now you're a big movie star? I see your face all the time on London buses - what's it like being back at school?
Going back to school is alright - I go to a very big school and some people give me a bit of stick. They walk past and go "Wingardium Leviosa" for the billionth time that day, and I go aaagggghhhhhh!

But apart from that most people are really nice about it.

My close firiends just treat me normally. They ask questions about it because they're curious but it's OK.

It's funny mixing the two worlds, but I still do everything I used to do. I still play hockey and do all my sports.

What are the teachers like?
The teachers are fine, normal. They're just the same old teachers really.

At the end you hug Daniel and then..... Tell us a bit about that scene and what you think might happen in the future? Well, at the time I said you've got to be kidding me - you want me to run down into the great hall and throw my arms around Harry?

Chris was like yeah and I was like no way! That's so embarrassing!

I mean, running down a Great Hall in front of 300 actors is so embarrassing. I made a deal with him, though, as long as he didn't do it in slow motion, and he didn't put soppy music behind it!

What about with Rupert?
Rupert Grint as Ron
With Rupert? Well I don't know where that's going - you'll have to ask JK Rowling about that one.

One of the most difficult scenes was just after Draco Malfoy had called you a Mudblood. How was that to do? It was emotional for you and you did it really well.
It was quite hard - I just tried to forget about everyone else. The fact that she was a mudblood and this whole racism and prejudice against her made her a very interesting part to play.

I really enjoyed doing that scene because it really tested me. I just tried to keep my eyes open for a long time and not blink and then think of the saddest thing I could and it just happened really.

Slytherin Interview

Potter baddies
Tom Felton, Joshua Herdman & Jamie Waylett - Draco, Goyle & Crabbe.  [CBBC]

Harry Potter's arch-enemy and his two Slytherin goons talk to the Blue Peter team about how they were chosen, their favourite bits and the worst things about their characters.

How on earth did you get your parts?
In my primary school we were reading the Harry Potter books and someone told me there was going to be a film of Harry Potter and I thought oh that's going to be cool, I said - When's it out? I didn't know it hadn't even been made yet.

The people who were casting everything came to our school, they picked four of us out, spoke to us and then took polaroids - that was the last I heard. And then they told my headmistress that they wanted to see me again and it just kicked off from there.

Now you all play bad characters, Joshua, tell me, what's the worst thing about your character?
I suppose just being a bully basically, looking mean, following Draco about.

It looks like an epic of a movie, how long did it take to film Tom?
About six or seven months.

And we know also that they're already making the second Harry Potter movie - are you involved Tom?
I am.

Tell us, Jamie what were the sets like and what was it like actually going into Hogwarts?
Well the great hall was very grand, it was how I sort of imagined it, it's really glittery.

And did they actually film the whole thing there Jamie?
Yeah in the studio.

Each of you in turn, what's your favourite scene?
Jamie: Well my favourite scene was the Halloween scene where because the tables come up to about my knee height we had to get out when we have to get out because everyone starts screaming and they have to run.

I kept falling over my robes and then I kept falling over about five times - I kept falling over and it hurt.

Tom: The flying scene where I had to fly outside, that was fun.

Jamie: I think the Halloween scenes as well.
